Persian Sacred, Classical and Traditional Dances with Farima Berenji

I am very excited to announce Farima's return to the Comox Valley this Fall on the weekend of November 13th, 14th and 15th!

   We are very blessed in our dance community to have such a talented and wise master teacher, international performer and scholar come to share her passion and knowledge with us. I met my dear friend and mentor Farima in Turkey in 2012 where I participated in her "Awakening Artemis" dance project and she has been coming to teach workshops and lead Sema Gatherings at the Abbey Studio biannually ever since. Out of the last magical weekend intensive in the Spring 2015, we formed the Canadian 'wing' of Farima's Simorgh Collective. I am thrilled to be facilitating this study group at the Abbey Studio under Farima's guidance, dedicated to continuing practicing and studying Persian sacred, classical and traditional dances. Those who attend the weekend intensive and, are committed to attending future training with Farima are eligible to join the collective. Saying that, all are welcome and encouraged to join us for this inspiring weekend of dance!

Baluchi dance is very rich and played with varieties of traditional instruments. Located in the South of Iran, bordering Afghanistan, Balouch dance has a blend of dance movement of Afghani, Indian, and Iranian dance moments. Due to their strong cultural values, the Baluch people have been able to keep the their rich traditional heritage alive.
Two famous dances of Balouchestan we will learn are;
Do-Chapi (also known as the bracelet Dance), which is an ancient Persian dance mostly performed by forming a circle by a group of people, dancing and clapping.
Lewa: Lewa is also a Baluchi dance of Sheedi origin, performed mostly by a group of people in a circle with hand movements.

It is highly recommended to attend the full weekend Intensive if possible!
